At District AutoClub it’s not just the smell of vintage motor oil or the sound of raspy twin carbs that turn us on…anything alternative culture, stuff that stirs our creative minds or if it simply ticks the “that’s cool” box it’ll make it in to our pages too, so when the latest RedBull skate film popped up into my feed I made sure I immersed myself in a garaunteed master class in action sport film making.
Last Resort – Aspotogan
Aspotogan, a forgotten hotel abandoned 20 years ago on a peninsula in Nova Scotia, Canada – is the venue for this beautiful RedBull Media House creation. Mid way through its development builders downed their tools never to return leaving it standing unused, that is until only recently. Redbull shredders: Ryan Decenzo, TJ Rogers, Joey Brezinski and some of the best park builders in our fine land set about creating a park like no other, utilising the structure and surroundings to construct an organic flow for the skaters to rip and get creative.
Shot on some of the best equipment in the business including a vintage Panavision fish eye, the film is beautiful and is a far cry from the hand held shot skate vids that me and my mates grew up on as aspiring skater kids in the late 90’s early naughties.
